What about legal age? Why Delaying the First Use of Tobacco and Marijuana Matters for Youth

When it comes to adolescent use of tobacco, alternate tobacco and marijuana, it can be hard to determine facts from fiction. Over the last several years, we have experienced an intense political and cultural shift in the attitudes surrounding marijuana use,  a rise in drug overdoses and a drive from government and private organizations to stop young people from starting to use drugs in the first place – to save lives in the long run.

We have also seen reports that offer evidence-based guidance on the correlation between the use of tobacco, alternate tobacco, marijuana and other drugs. In addition, these reports highlight the need to establish a culture that embraces and promotes prevention strategies from elementary school through high school.

To support your organization’s efforts to help keep kids healthy and safe, we are hosting a live panel discussion with three of today’s leading experts in the fields of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs:

  • Christina Ly, PhD, MPH

  • Ken Winters, PhD

  • Charles Mendez, Managing Director of C.E. Mendez Foundation

After participating in this webinar, attendees will be able to:

  1. Define the physical, developmental and emotional impact of marijuana, tobacco and alternative tobacco on youth and beyond.

  2. Understand the correlations that exist between marijuana and opioid use.

  3. Identify the cultural changes needed to support effective tobacco and marijuana prevention in schools.

  4. Learn how SEL strategies are the underpinning of Primary Prevention for any substance use and peer scenario.

Participants who attend this webinar and complete a post-webinar evaluation will receive a Certificate of Completion for 1 CE hour.
